Overview
Who runs this site
Eoliths.org is run by a single individual researcher based in
the United Kingdom. The site is focused on documenting early stone
tools, so the technical setup is intentionally simple: static
pages, a code-driven Atlas and Gallery, and basic logging on the
web server.
This page is here to be transparent about what data is
collected, how it is used, and how you can get in touch if you
have questions about it.
What this site does not do
- No advertising networks or ad trackers.
- No third-party “social media pixels” (Facebook, etc.).
- No invasive fingerprinting or cross-site tracking.
- No account logins for casual visitors.
What this site does do
- Serves static pages, images from a standard web server.
- Uses basic server logs to understand traffic patterns and
security issues.
- Uses a simple third-party contact form service to deliver
messages you choose to send.
This page is an informational summary of how
Eoliths.org is run. It is not legal advice and does not create any
sort of contract between you and the site owner.
Data details
Server logs & technical data
Like most websites, the hosting provider keeps standard server
logs. These typically include your IP address, the pages you
request, the time of the request, and basic information about your
browser or device. This information is used for:
- Keeping the site secure and detecting malicious traffic.
- Diagnosing technical problems (for example, broken links or
errors).
- Very broad, anonymised traffic statistics.
Logs are not used to build personal profiles of visitors, and
are not sold or shared with advertisers. They may be retained by
the hosting provider for a limited period as part of normal server
operations.
Contact form and email
If you use the contact form on the site, the information you
submit is sent to the site owner by email. The form is powered by
a third-party service (Formspree) which acts as a relay: it
receives your message and forwards it to the configured email
address.
- Information you submit will usually include your name, your
email address, and whatever you write in the message field.
- This information is used only to read and respond to your
enquiry, and to keep a record of correspondence where
appropriate.
- Messages may be stored in email archives for as long as they
are relevant to the ongoing research project.
If you prefer not to use the form, you can instead use the
direct email link on the Contact page
and write to the project from your own mail client.
Cookies & analytics
The core pages of Eoliths.org are designed to work without any
tracking cookies. If simple analytics are used at any point, they
will be configured in a minimal, privacy-respecting way (for
example, IP anonymisation or self-hosted analytics) and will not
be used to build cross-site profiles.
If this changes in a material way, this page will be updated to
describe what is being used and why.
Embedded content & external links
Some pages may embed or link to external content (for example,
YouTube videos, Zenodo records, or scanned PDFs hosted by
libraries). Those services have their own privacy practices, which
are outside the control of Eoliths.org.
If you follow an external link or play an embedded video, you
should check the privacy information for that external service if
you are concerned about tracking or data collection there.
Your choices
Your rights & how to get in touch
Because this is a small, research-focused site, the amount of
personal data processed is modest and usually limited to email
correspondence and technical logs. However, if you have:
- Sent a message via the contact form or direct email, and
- Would like to know what information is held about that
correspondence, or ask for it to be deleted,
you can simply contact the site owner using the details on the Contact page and describe your request.
Please include the email address you used and, if possible, an
approximate date or subject line so the right thread can be
located.
Children and sensitive information
This site is aimed at adults interested in archaeology, geology
and related subjects. It is not directed at children. Please do
not send highly sensitive personal information (such as medical,
financial or identity documents) via the contact form or email;
there is no need for that in order to discuss artefacts or
research.
Changes
Updates to this page
The technical setup of the site may evolve over time (for
example, moving to a different hosting provider, adding or
removing an analytics tool, or changing how the contact form is
implemented). When that happens, this page will be updated to
reflect the new reality as clearly as possible.
If the changes are substantial and affect how your data is
handled, a short note may also be added to the homepage or contact
page to draw attention to the update.
If you have concerns about privacy that are
not addressed here, you are welcome to raise them directly via the
contact details on this site. The overall aim is to keep the
project transparent, not to harvest data.
